Crate training a puppy
- Encourage puppy into the crate and reward with a treat - Shut the puppy in the crate but stay with her. If she makes a fuss or starts whining, ignore her until she stops. Then let her out the cage without too much fuss. - Repeat this often throughout the day - Progress to moving away from the crate but staying in the room. Distract her with a toy filled with treats whilst she’s in the crate. - Wait until she’s calm and then let her out again - Repeat until she is happy to be left in the crate without any fuss - Then progress to moving into another room and leaving her for a few minutes. Again wait until she is calm before going back to her. - Repeat and build up the time she is left in their gradually. - Feed her meals in the crate so she associates the crate with good things - Eventually she will associate the crate as a safe and good place to be and you will find she will go in there on her own.
